I sit in silence Listening To nothing, Waiting For no one, Hoping.
Moonlight reminds me of all that once adorned the galleries of my heart. Those secret photographs of all we long to find, and be. Except, there were no secrets with me for I wrote my dreams upon the fine linen pages which were the journal of my life. An open book, I said; but then…I lie. If not to you, then to myself for in the venting of the past, there’s but a tiny ember left.
Oh no, my heart’s not dead, but only buried in a place where none will ever touch so deeply again. I am afraid. In fear, I walk the paths of death and hunger for the freeing winds of life. Lift me up into the sky and let me fly. Then let me die.
I do not choose this life nor yet this path and yet my feet are burdened with the walking of it. How dare you place your hand upon my arm and try to force my eyes to turn away from the prize? What makes you think that any could divert me from the steps I need to take? And yet…perhaps…a tiny spark remains.
It was not for you. Not for your need to find a place in life. How can I be the one to justify your existence when I cannot yet justify my own? You ask too much. You take a brush and wipe away my life that in its place will be a blank canvas you can write. Your words do not define my need. Your hopes will never be the seed.
It will be my own. I hold this hand unto the sky…palm raised to touch first raindrop as it whispers by. You do not know the hope that nestles in it tight until I bare it to the light. I can’t….it might…be right. Or wrong. When have you listened to the song to hear the words I wrote…too long….too long. You could not pause to hear the echo of my heart nor yet the dreams I dared to start. Indeed…mementos broke apart.
Dear God, there was a moment when I cried upon your face…and felt your grace caress me with a single trace… I dare to question you. I must confess; I can’t do less. For in the shaping of the woman you create you leave no love. You’ve taken fate to twist her fingers round the stake she drove into her breast. Lord, let her rest. She’s done her best to pass the test you set before her steps.
Unfair, I know. How do I dare to pass my anger, pass the pain to one who makes the rain? I do not even know my name. And would you say the same were you left standing on the shore…with nothing more? When you depart, I beg you close the door that I remember…nothing more.
Until I wake…to feel your touch upon my face. Look into eyes that melt my heart in single glance. Well do I know the flames that look askance into my dreams. Unbidden schemes we share as if we dare to taste the bitter nectar of what’s left. Your hands are deft upon my skin until my light glows once again…
I dream…I wait…I hope…
I love.

Walk the path not seeking, but excepting. Steps in unison, uniquely your own. Interrupted occasionally with life's stutter. Time wares away at your imprints. What was fades into distant history. Memories dissolve and meld into a blur. Focus toward an uncertain future. Take arms, take arms! Pick up your shield of compassion, your armament of love, your dream. They guide you forth. Seek and ye shall find, but explore and ye shall discover. Explore

Upon the blanket of the past Lies not this moment nor the last, But yet a hope. A broken fragment of the dream That set your heart upon the wing And wrote your life upon the sky Where all could spy. And in the passing of the hour Neither raindrop nor yet shower Washes clear the pain. Oh, let it live again! Take back no words. Retract no symbol of the day. But let your light, That fragile beam refracting blossoms Where the sun too soon will play, In turgid shadow let it linger. Lead the way. Pierce deep the grey.

Everything...and nothing. The greatest prize, the darkest night. Until the final words are writ Until the final truths are told Will be a secret that I grasp Will be a silent hope I hold. For when the star should fall at last Will be the greatest wish untold.

One song can spark a moment, One flower can wake the dream. One tree can start a forest, One bird can herald spring. One smile begins a friendship, One handclasp lifts a soul. One star can guide a ship at sea, One word can frame the goal One vote can change a nation, One sunbeam lights a room One candle wipes out darkness, One laugh will conquer gloom. One step must start each journey. One word must start each prayer. One hope will raise our spirits, One touch can show you care. One voice can speak with wisdom, One heart can know what's true,
One life can make a difference, You see, it's up to you!

How very lovely. I have often thought that this place...this place is a place where the world can slowly unite...one hand at a time...one heart at a time...and build friendships that supercede hate. Yet...it can be a challenge to build that vision.
One hand I have to offer One word I softly speak One song we sing together One light to guide the way One hope ignites the vision One dream creates the path One love to bind the fingers Of each hand I gently clasp.

I am a student Maestro And before anyone asks maestra denotes "schoolmistress" in Italian. I never liked that description. But hey, that's me

I found your comment exceptional...and your poem igniting a need to respond in like kind. It is the greatest hommage I can pay...to be inspired.
Thank you, Bill...for all you've brought into my life. I treasure our friendship quite deeply. I hope you always know that.
